The “Game Day Plan” is crafted together by the child and parent, and is a roadmap for injection day. By implementing gamification, we help engage kids so they continuing building on their skills! Plus, the badges they earn serve as a cue and reminder system for parents & clinicians about which strategies they will be using on Game Day! We take a multi-pronged approach by informing parents, training kids, and empowering clinicians. Utilizing strategies rooted in psychological science, but conveniently embedded in a convenient app tailored just for you, we can help prevent enduring phobias and make the injection experience easier all around. In this animated series, Sam helps Jo learn to be Mighty, so he can feel Brave and Confident for his shot. Sam is the ideal instructor, using simple language and breaking down concepts step by step all while keeping it fun! Effective and simple strategies are even more fun to learn and practice when earning badges and unlocking secret challenges. Alongside their parents, kids craft their personalized Vaccine Game Day Plan. Allowing them some control and choice helps empower kids! We also ensure to incorporate celebration, providing parents an opportunity to reinforce their child and molding positive attitudes for the next time around! 63% of children aged between 6-17 years experience needle fear. Based on the CDC immunization schedule, over 30 vaccines are recommended from birth to 18 years. Kids rate needle sticks as the most distressing event they encounter in the hospital. Techniques like holding a child down or lying to them can be harmful & can contribute to an enduring needle phobia. Being diagnosed as a young kid with type I diabetes, I had to get shots daily and I experienced needle distress all the time. After becoming a psychologist and seeing kids suffering with COVID vaccines, I knew there was a better way. That’s how Mighty Jo was born! Co-Founder of Mighty Jo & Licensed Psychologist My first memory of getting a shot involves literally running and hiding from the medical team. Ugh, I definitely had a strong fear of needles that stuck with me until I was an adult. And, learning that psychology can help kids fueled my desire to bring the knowledge to kids, parents, and clinicians. So being scared doesn’t get in the way of being healthy.
